Vacancy: Construction Supervisor – Explosive Ordnance Detection & Clearance
Project: Major Infrastructure Programme

We are seeking an experienced Construction Supervisor to oversee pre-construction and construction-phase explosive ordnance detection and clearance activities on a major infrastructure project.

This is a specialist role focused on the coordination, supervision, and quality assurance of investigations and clearance works carried out by appointed specialist contractors. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient delivery across all phases of the works.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise explosive ordnance surveys before and during construction, including clearance activities

  • Oversee probing works to locate and determine the position of potential ordnance sites

  • Monitor clearance works for the safe and professional removal of explosive ordnance

  • Coordinate and supervise all associated works and ancillary services required for project delivery

  • Attend and contribute to weekly on-site coordination meetings for progress tracking and work preparation

  • Review technical planning documents and inspect access routes, identifying bottlenecks and logistical constraints

  • Carry out plausibility checks on stakeout and site set-out information

  • Verify proper execution of works on site in line with technical, contractual, and safety requirements

  • Support contractor briefings and site mobilisation activities

  • Lead and document kick-off meetings and regular construction meetings on a weekly or biweekly basis

  • Coordinate between construction contractors, specialist firms, authorities, and other relevant stakeholders

  • Provide interface coordination support across impacted project areas such as rights of way, permitting, route planning, archaeology, and related disciplines

  • Organise and participate in inspections and acceptance of completed works, including identifying defects and making acceptance recommendations

  • Monitor and follow up on defect rectification

  • Maintain and review construction documentation, including site layout plans, daily construction reports, section reports, site maps, and final documentation

  • Participate in measurements and review measurement records

  • Support the acceptance of services and deliveries

  • Review contractor invoices and technical submissions

  • Assess obstruction notices, variation claims, additional cost notices, and supplements from a technical perspective

  • Review and report schedule deviations and delivery risks

  • Verify compliance with HSE requirements, training obligations, and contractual quality standards

  • Provide regular updates and technical feedback to the project management team

  • Participate in condition assessments, approvals, and related site inspections

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in construction supervision on infrastructure, civil engineering, rail, utility, or comparable projects

  • Strong understanding of explosive ordnance detection and clearance operations or similar high-risk specialist works

  • Experience coordinating multiple contractors, specialist providers, and public authorities

  • Good knowledge of HSE compliance, quality standards, and construction documentation processes

  • Confident leading meetings, tracking progress, and reporting on technical and commercial issues

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage interfaces across complex project environments

  • Fluent communication skills in relevant project languages would be advantageous
